Cloud Storage

Cloud storage looks like a commodity — dollars per terabyte — and is not. Two services at the same price can differ on the only question that matters when something goes wrong: who can read your files, and how far back you can recover them.

So this category records the encryption model first. Proton Drive and Internxt encrypt on the device before upload, so the provider cannot read the files; Proton also encrypts file names. Sync.com states that only the customer can decrypt content. pCloud and Koofr sell client-side encryption as a separate layer over ordinary storage. Dropbox and Microsoft encrypt in transit and at rest but hold the keys. Backblaze offers a private encryption key on an otherwise unlimited backup.

The prices are recorded with their unit, because the units genuinely differ: pCloud and Sync sell per account, Microsoft 365 sells per person, and Backblaze sells per computer with no capacity limit at all. Version history is recorded in the provider's own terms — 30 days at Dropbox and pCloud, 90 at Sync's 1 TB plan, ten years on Proton's Drive Plus, and a version count rather than a period at Box. We did not measure transfer speed. Anything a plan page did not state stays unknown here.
